Le smoking fashion follows suit Everything from a beaded ballgown, to a pair of distressed jeans, to a fivefigure handbag named after a minor television celebrity, seems to have been summarised at one point or another by this throwaway phrase. But what really makes the cut? What are the real icons of style? The little black dress?Obviously. The biascut evening dress?Possibly. But of all the"Iconic"Items that have proliferated through contemporary fashion, none seem to have the enduring impact, notoriety and appeal of le smoking. A garment that manages to bridge the divide between male and female, le smoking is a symbol of evening elegance in menswear and the seductive power of female crossdressing. It is, to all extents and purposes, a man's tuxedo but once part of a woman's wardrobe the gallic term stuck, not least for the endless anglophilistine puns it allows when describing the"Smoking hot"Appeal of a woman appropriating this most masculine of garments. Le smoking has been a stalwart of the welldressed man's wardrobe for decades but, until relatively recently, its adoption by women raised eyebrows and even hackles. It was yves saint laurent who transformed le smoking into high fashion for women, showing an impeccably tailored tuxedo with cummerbund and bowtie as part of his winter 1966 haute couture collection. It was a portent:The next season, they were the keynote garment of his entire collection and became the leitmotif of his career. Saint laurent can be credited with promoting le smoking as a fashion musthave, but the credit for its daring cooption by women can be traced back a good 40 years prior to that.In the twenties, crossdressing among the artistic set of interwar europe was all the rage, with literary figures such as gertrude stein and radclyffe hall adopting tuxedos as bohemian evening attire. Its elevation to a mainstream style icon, however, can be traced to one woman:Marlene dietrich. Generally credited as being the first woman to bring the tuxedo jacket to prominence a neat echo of our own era of celebrityfixated fashion reportage dietrich created a sensation when she sported her tuxedos in private life as well as onscreen. These garments fitted like a man's suit because they bridesmaides were a man's suit.Later reports claimed they were constructed by the couture ateliers of christian dior, but throughout her career dietrich only trusted knize of austria, tailors to halfadozen archdukes and a few more crowned heads, to make her masculine garb. It was those evocative, endlessly glamorous images of dietrich that, in turn, inspired yves saint laurent three decades later:He created a wardrobe of trousers for women, but le smoking remained the apotheosis of his vision of modernity. Indeed, contrasted against the grand gowns offered by other couturiers, saint laurent's evening les smokings look rigorously modern even today. As if to underline that point, for 1970 he sent out his bride in a veiled hat and le smoking in purest white wool;A year later, bianca jagger wed in almost the same model. These seem tame to our contemporary eyes, accustomed to seeing women donning les smokings as chic evening attire, but saint laurent's smokings emerged on the haute couture catwalk at a time when women in trousers were still routinely refused entrance to fashionable restaurants.Couture client and lifelong saint laurent devotee nan kempner was turned away from new york's la cote basque in a saint laurent smoking she stripped off the trousers, wore the jacket as a dress, and just about passed muster.Likewise, when dietrich visited paris in 1932, the chief of police attempted to ban her from wearing trousers in public elegant les smokings included. Why were these garments considered so shocking? The idea that respectable women did not wear trousers was the convention, but perhaps more provocative still was the idea of Le smoking as the first truly unisex garb.Saint laurent stated that he loved les smokings because"They look equally chic on men and women".That sexual ambiguity was certainly part and parcel of the dietrich image, famously bisexual on screen and in life. The late helmut newton once stated: "Le smoking.[is] exactly the way I wished my ideal woman was dressed. It is the glorification of the 16tharrondissement bourgeoisie woman with too much money, too much free time on her hands and up to all sorts of tricks. " He immortalised the saint laurent woman as just that in 1975, clad in le smoking, cigarette poised between fingers, hand party dresses australia sale effortlessly resting in trouserpocket jeanpierre derbourd, former technical director of yves saint laurent, once said that the arms on les smokings were specially fitted to this slouched pose. That mood of transgression still characterises le smoking today it's a rebel, certainly, but more sophisticated than blue jeans and les blousons noir, less wanton than the miniskirt and less obvious than the safetypinned tshirt.Le smoking is perhaps the only form of rebellion in dress that has never fallen into selfparody.Perhaps that is because the tuxedo jacket is now a fashion perennial indeed, it is so ubiquitous that its appearance barely qualifies as a"Trend". Le smoking is the perfect combination of sensuality and rigour;A formula for sleek evening elegance and it's a formula designers are loathe to fiddle with. Why fix something that isn't broken, after all? The components of le smoking rarely change, designers rediscovering each season the doublebreasted cut, the subtle blackonblack contrast of satin against grain de poudre and the continuing sexual frisson of dressing a woman in what is still considered a man's garment. The idea of reinventing the wheel seems to be what keeps designers inspired the rules of le smoking are made to be bent.Autumn/winter 2011 proved no exception:Haider ackermann showed slouchy smokings belted over sinuous satin eveningdresses, the revived house of mugler spliced them with corsetry and latex, while at yves saint laurent, the house that started it all, stefano pilati showed le smoking true, albeit inverted in colour, a nod to bianca jagger's wedding suit as part of an allwhite finale. These are part of an exhibition, practice to deceive:Smoke mirrors in fashion, fine art and film, currently being staged in showstudio's gallery space in london. But, as that name suggests, there's a twist the designers will be creating their jackets live on camera, offering a window into each label's creation of these oneoff pieces. "This series is all about dispelling the myths and misconceptions of the fashion industry, the smoke and mirrors if you will,"Says gallery director and curator carrie scott, adding that each designer's wares will be on sale following the broadcasts. Returning to that idea of"Iconic"Fashion, could there be a finer investment than these oneoff pieces? An alternative could be a slice of vintage saint laurent haute couture original les smokings occasionally surface on ebay or through vintage clothing dealers such as london's kerry taylor, reflecting the subtle evolutions of a hardy fashion perennial.Shoulders narrow and widen, waists rise and fall, the style remains. When it comes to le smoking, an icon of the 20th century that looks set to continue into the new millennium, it feels fitting that m.Saint laurent should have the last word: "For a woman, le smoking is an indispensable garment with which she finds herself in fashion, because it is about style, not fashion.Fashions come and go, but style is forever. "
Laura jane Ok, i'm up to 5/6 finished english papers. That leaves one day to accomplish one ichaeloragale paper.Sounds good. Saturday was the best day ever.A little bit of snow boarding was done, a bit of tobbagganing too(Except it was too difficult to steer around the little kids so we ended that one pretty soon). The weather was too fantastic.Sunny and gorgeous and incredible. We then went for a walk along the river, stopping when ever we felt it neccisary to throw snow balls at each other or in my case cheap michael kors get tossed into the snow banks and get snow down the back of my jacket. We stopped by the bridge and crossed onto an open area of un stepped in snow and proceeded to draw a huge cowboy/hick in the snow, then we ran up the stairs to the bridge and admired our masterpiece. Next we climbed on top of two monuments that were on either side of a path and had the snow ball fight to end all snow ball fights, throwing snow across the path from one 'castle' to the other. (My team won, but that's because our monument had way more snow on top and their team had a team mate with a broken wrist. ) It was impossible to climb down and i really should have let k catch me but i was stubborn and wanted to do it myself. Results:A chunk out of my finger and blood on the snow. Not pretty. But we went to the new forks inn and got bandaid, so all was well. We shopped a little bit in the market place and then we bought curly fries at skinners and wondered how it was possoble that b had never tried them before! Then it was on to pick up bathing suits at all our houses, stopping finally at safeway to pick up groceries for our dinner. The boys made pasta and meat sauce, lk made a salad and leezann and i made a cake. Then we all sat down at the table(With candles i might add)To eat. And then the rest of the people arrived and it was officially a house party. The drinking began and we played a game of"Dice" (Where you guess a number and if you don't roll it you take a shot).Very simple. By the time we walked to the park to set of fireworks i was out of it, hangin off of a and k for support, but still having an amazing time.I probably should have stopped then but when you're drunk it's hard to listen to yourself, so brook and i snuck upstairs and took 3 more shots.Bad! If i hadn't had those last 3 it would have been much easier to fall asleep that night, because when they eventually kicked in i was already at home in bed. Today is valentines day!Happy valentines day to everybody!I hope you all have amazing days with your loved ones! .

Largest dog rescue in history of home state in leitrim The irish society for the prevention of cruelty to animals(Ispca)And three other animal welfare organisations have wound up a massive rescue operation that has taken place over the past five days at a rural property in co leitrim, the ispca said in a statement this evening. The dogs, mostly bichon frise crossbreeds, king charles cavaliers and shih tzus, ranged in age from puppies to mature dogs. Most of them had heavily matted fur and were suffering from skin, eye and teeth problems. One of the dogs was so ill it had to be euthanised while another had to have a diseased eye removed. Such was the scale of the rescue operation that the ispca required the cooperation of the leitrim animal welfare, dogs trust and leitrim county council veterinary officers in order to remove and care for the animals at their respective shelters. Co leitrim veterinary officer james madden said the rescue was due to an extreme case of"Dog hoarding"In which an owner typically keeps and breeds dogs without the necessary space, funds or ability to care for the animals properly. He said the woman at the centre of the christian louboutin chaussures femme rescue"Had been making efforts to feed them but the situation spiralled out of control due to the sheer number of animals. " He added the woman was breeding some of the dogs but it also appeared that she was taking in other abandoned animals at the site. Ispca chief inspector conor dowling said"The condition of the animals was appalling.Their coats were extremely matted and many had thick dreads of matted hair right down to their skin.Their coats were also matted with a mix of sawdust, dog faeces and mud and their legs were soaked in urine,"He said. "Many of the animals were also suffering from eye problems and one had to have an eye removed while the ispca was forced to put another animal to sleep, which is hugely disappointing while being a mercy there wasn't more than one,"He said. "The ispca believes that animals have the right to live their lives free from needless suffering and we aim to rescue, rehabilitate and responsibly rehome animals that are subjected to cruelty or neglect. We also believe that all animals have an intrinsic value entirely independent of their value or use to man and should be respected and protected accordingly,"He added. Insp dowling added: "The main problem with these dogs was their coats and http://www.gettotallyfreestuff.com/christian-louboutin-platforms.html their skins. They were all small furry dogs which need a regular grooming and they clearly weren't getting it where they were. They were also living in really, really diaboltically dirty conditions. " The hoard was discovered by a local veterinarian who alerted the ispca and the other rescue organisations, he added. Some of the dogs have already been rehomed through the rescue organisations and others placed in foster homes until they can be rehomed. Meanwhile, the ispca is in the process of gathering photographic evidence"With a view to prosecution,"He told the irish independent. However the problem with people who hoard animals, compared to those who are intentionally cruel to them, is that it is often a form of compulsion, he said.

Kim kardashian cheap wedding dresses sydney and kris humphries wear matching Kim kardashian and kris humphries stepped out in new york city earlier this week wearing similar green and black ensembles, which seems somewhat unusual for this adorable, but odd couple.Kardashian is an entrepreneurial fashionista who has kept her penchant for glam style no secret on keeping up with the kardashians. And humphries?Well, he's a towering basketball player who typically goes for a casual, dresseddown approach. The real question is how did their matchymatchy, colorcoordinated outfits come off:Cute or corny? Green with envy for the kardashianhumphries look?Overall, they probably get a bplus. It's not the terrible faux pas it could have been, but the reality star couple does much better to keep their outfits uniquely their own.Kardashian looks fine, but humphries kind of depletes her chicness, what with his jacket that seems a bit strange, daresay cheap, given the pleatherlike sheen of the leather.Celebuzz has the photos of their green moment here. However, kim kardashian and kris humphries aren't the first highprofile celebrity couple to go into matching mode.Victoria and david beckham have done it.So have exes jennifer aniston and brad pitt.Overall, it's really a dangerous fashion line to walk and hopefully kardashian and humphries will keep their style stories separate from now on.
